Hubbards Donates $40K to Three Amazing Community Heroes
Communities across New Zealand will soon benefit from a huge dose of amazingness, thanks to three deserving heroes and
Hubbards Muesli.
Following the launch of its Limited Edition Box of Amazing Passionfruit & Vanilla Muesli in October 2013, Hubbards donated 60c from every box sold – raising $40,000 in funds to help New Zealand
communities. The funding was split according to the public’s vote, between three amazing heroes who each do fantastic
things for their local community; Live More Awesome Jimi, Tracy from Kiwi Community Assistance and Flat Man.
Jimi, who made his name lilo-ing down the Waikato River and founder of Live More Awesome will use the $13,992 from
Hubbards to get 30,000 gratitude journals into the hands of 11-14 year old school children around New Zealand.
Research has shown gratitude helps increase happiness - Live More Awesome therefore developed gratitude journals, so
students can write down once a week, five things they are grateful for.
Jimi says: “We’ve now got a bunch of schools sitting there eagerly awaiting for journals to arrive thanks to the money
from Hubbards – all those classrooms will be getting them ASAP!”
Tracy Wellington’s Tawa-based charity, Kiwi Community Assistance (KCA), will use the $12,469 from Hubbards to secure
rental for the next four months on a warehouse that will be used for sorting and storage of non-perishable donations.
“We’ve loved being part of the Hubbards Amazing Heroes campaign – it’s fantastic to be recognised alongside other worthy
causes, like Flat Man and Live More Awesome Jimi. We’re truly grateful for the funding received – it’s more than we ever
imagined and I’d like to thank all of those that voted for us,” says Tracy. “Because of Hubbards’ generosity, we can now
provide even more food parcels to help families in the community.”
Christchurch's very own super hero, Flat Man, will use the $13,537 from Hubbards to continue his work delivering food
packages to deserving homes and carrying out other acts of kindness throughout Canterbury with his motto: Be a Bruv,
Share the Luv.
Flat Man says: "I'd like to say a massive thank you to everyone at Hubbards for picking three very deserving heroes. The
funds raised will go towards creating a real-life superhero experience, so kids can see first hand what’s involved with
this line of work. Money will also be put towards other missions, including; delivering food parcels to struggling
families, quake-hit residences, impoverished students and more recently, those affected by the flooding.”
“I’d also like to thank all those that took time out of their day to vote and who truly believe in the work I do in
Christchurch to help others - Hubbards, you are leading the way to challenge other companies to get behind others in
their community who are trying to make this world a little better, one person at a time.”
“Hubbards cares about communities and has done so since the business was founded in 1990. These heroes are a fine
example to us all and we are delighted that we have been able to assist them in their, frankly, amazing quest,” says
Rebecca Bergs, Marketing Manager of Hubbards. “It’s been great fun and rewarding working with our heroes and we will
continue to support them.”
