Farmers Mill Leading the Way With 100% NZ Flour and Innovative Baking Supplies
A state-of-the-art, brand new mill is the reason Farmers Mill Flour is providing bakers throughout the country with uniquely customised, fully traceable flour and baking supplies.
Farmers Mill, based in Timaru, boasts new milling equipment which has been designed to mill New Zealand wheat to an exceptionally high standard and produces premium biscuit, all-purpose baking, cake, pastry and bread flours to unique, high end specifications.
Since its opening in June last year, the business has grown substantially to become a leading producer for the New Zealand baking industry supplying to iconic brands such as Griffins Foods, Couplands Bakeries, French Bakery and Baker Boys. Examples of key retail outlets using Farmers Mill flour for artisan breads and pastry based products include Little and Friday in Auckland and Rangiora Bakery in Canterbury.
At an “Innovation and Product Launch” function at Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology last night, CEO of Farmers Mill, Grant Bunting, told guests the Mill is a fast growing significant, 100% New Zealand business with a great story to tell.
“Farmers Mill flour is traceable from the paddocks of the arable South Canterbury plains all the way to consumers’ plates. We produce an excellent range of mainstream flours and we are proud of our ability to uniquely customise our flour to suit larger, industrial volumes,” he said.
The business has recently developed a range of flour based mixes which have Farmers Mill premium flour as the base. The products include brioche mix and a “sought after” buttermilk scone mix.
The company’s strategic relationship with French multinational yeast supplier, Lesaffre, has also enabled Farmers Mill to extend its premix range considerably to include Lesaffre products. The range is extensive and includes Gluten Free cakes and breads alongside traditional mixes and baking ingredients.
Farmers Mill’s most recent innovation is its “Smart Bake” product range – a niche range of premium nutrition focussed pre-mixes. As well as offering “low salt” mixes including pizza bases, bread and batter mixes, the “Smart Bake” products include a range of “sugar free” products spanning Muffin, Chocolate Cookie, Shortbread and Sweet Bun Mixes.
“Our commitment to the development of innovative, added value products, means consumers who enjoy products from bakeries or retailer shelves can remain confident that products baked with Farmers Mill flour will be amongst New Zealand’s finest,” said Mr Bunting.
Owned by 11 South Island farmers, the Farmers Mill is the country’s only independent grower-owned and operated flour producer and baking supplier.
