NZ-Based Ozone Coffee Roasters Embraces Crowd Funding for London Project: Clipper Coffee Merchants
DATE OF RELEASE: 4 March 2014
Local coffee company, Ozone Coffee Roasters, has embraced Kickstarter Crowdfunding for the launch of a unique bulk brew coffee bar, Clipper Coffee Merchants, in Shoreditch, London, opening mid-March. The crowdfunding site Kickstarter has a focus on funding creative projects internationally, with over US$1billion pledged to date.
Chief Executive, Karla Gichard says “coffee is an integral part of community and social life. That, along with Kickstarter’s focus on creative, artistic, design and food-related projects is a key factor in our decision to launch this project through crowdfunding. Crowdfunding is increasingly popular and this offers a unique opportunity for coffee aficionados to support the venture, along with exclusive supporter only benefits and recognition on the funder wall in both the brew bar and website”.
Opening mid-March at 87 Leonard Street, Shoreditch, London, Clipper Coffee Merchants will showcase stunning single origins, including those directly selected by James Gurr of Ozone Coffee Roasters from coffee farms in Brazil. Customers will have the opportunity to taste a range of brews, as well as premium espresso coffee, talk to coffee specialists and learn about how the specialty coffees are sourced, and of course, enjoy a great brew.
Located in a fabulous space in Shoreditch, Central East London, work has already started on the design and fitout. The small space will be beautifully designed, raw and earthy, with inspiration from Lou Davies, the architect behind award-winning Riding House Café and Ozone Coffee Roasters. Managing Director, Craig Macfarlane, explains “the careful design will take customers on an inherent journey from farm to cup and evoke a sensory experience, savouring the coffee flavours and aroma with new friends and old”.
Coffee is a social experience, and with Clipper Coffee Merchants located in the creative, tech hub of London, Ozone Coffee Roasters has embraced the opportunity to be part of the Kickstarter Crowdfunding campaign, inviting potential customers to be part of the project and help raise the funds needed to open the unique brew bar in return for some fabulous rewards. The project runs until 16th March and rewards range from entry level £5 coffee brews, to a year long coffee VIP card at £1,000.
“We’ve already raised over £2,000 of the £25,000 target and are confident we will achieve our result with the support of our communities and supporters in both London and New Zealand. It truly is a unique opportunity for people to be able to support an international start-up coffee brew bar”.
It’s likely two of the most popular rewards will be pledges offering exclusive invites to the VIP pre-launch events and the chance to socialise with London’s coffee elite, along with early release fresh crop single origin coffees. More details and the opportunity to pledge can be found at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/49433227/clipper-coffee-merchants-shoreditchs-bulk-brew-cof?ref=live. And, with every pledge, supporters names will be proudly displayed on our website and funders wall in recognition of their support.
According to Karla, a key difference at Clipper Coffee Merchants is the direct return and support for farmers at origin. “25p from every cup of coffee will be donated to help support key projects and make a difference in the lives of the farmers and workers, and ensure they can remain focused on growing stunning, rich and complex coffee”.
The coffees at Clipper are roasted just up the road at Ozone Coffee Roasters London-based roastery. Using time-honoured roasting processes, each coffee is carefully roasted to highlight the unique flavour characteristics through soft brew methods, and La Marzocco will be providing a new custom Linea PB espresso machine for those customers that enjoy an espresso coffee.
London is embracing specialty coffee and this is the next step in the evolution. Clipper will offer a continually changing single origin menu so customers can taste unique and interesting coffees and experience the unique flavours of varieties from farm to farm. The brew bar will be offering seasonal, fresh crop coffees to ensure the coffees served will be flavourful, full of freshness and vibrancy that is traditionally lost as coffee matures.
