Nelson’s leading businesswomen launch “Nelson’s Most Wonderful Woman”, in recognition of International Women’s Day.
A group of local businesswomen are keen to receive nominations to find out who the Nelson public believe merits the title “Nelson’s Most Wonderful Woman”, in a promotion that recognizes the growing importance of International Women’s Day, (8th March). This global day celebrates the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future.
Eleven businesses, JAYS & KO, KO Cosmetics, Taylors Shoes, Cardells Hair, Caci, Little Boutique, Benjamin Black Goldsmiths, Café Affair, Matthews Eyewear, Shine and Wild Tomato, have teamed up to offer a $2300 prize pack for the winner of the title “Nelson’s Most Wonderful Woman”, who will also be featured in the May edition of Wild Tomato Magazine.
Entry forms can be picked up from any of the participating retailers, (no purchase necessary). Anybody can submit a nominee for the title by explaining in 250 words or less, why they think that woman deserves to win.
Event co-ordinator, Karen Jordan, says “Every day we come across amazing women in this great little city of ours who achieve fantastic things” she continues, “I’m not necessarily talking about community leaders, although we’re fortunate to have plenty of role models in that area. I’m talking about friends, sisters, partners and mums who share close bonds and help each other through day-to-day life.”
The idea came to Karen and her business partner, Kate Donaldson, in recognising the fact that they work in a collaborative manner with other local businesswomen. Kate says, “We're so lucky to have the support of other local retailers. We all work together and help each other out. We know other people experience this kindness, so we wanted to celebrate all those women who support and inspire others.”
All entries must be received at one of the participating businesses by 8th March, the entries will be shortlisted by the judging panel (the women behind the sponsoring businesses), the top six entries will be forwarded to Nelson’s first female mayor, Mayor Rachel Reese, who will pick the overall winner to be announced at JAYS & KO on the evening of 19th March.
Mayor Reese says, “I think it’s a fantastic idea to celebrate Nelson’s Most Wonderful Woman, I applaud these local businesswomen in their initiative, and look forward to reviewing the top six entries and picking a deserving winner of the title.”
