‘Supreme Liquor’ in Takinini Closed after failing Controlled Purchase Operation
Calum Penrose, Manurewa-Papakura Ward Councillor is delighted with a decision made on Tuesday in the District Court by
Justice Hole who declined an application for a liquor licence by ‘Supreme Liquor Holdings Limited’ in Takanini, due to
the applicants having a history of failing five controlled purchase operations within stores they own, with two of these
failures being while trading under a temporary authority due to previous breaches.
Manurewa-Papakura Ward Councillor Calum Penrose says that the store on the corner of Manuroa Road and Princess Street in
Takanini has been ordered to close by the first of March.
"This is a victory for our communities, and shows that the new Sale of Alcohol Act is working as intended, with a clear
‘three strikes and you’re out’ policy being enforced by authorities. Power is being given back to the community while
dirty operators which fail to comply are being punished for their lack of concern for the law.
Minister of Justice Hon. Judith Collins and MP for Papakura says this decision shows that the Sale of Alcohol Act 2012
which she pushed through Parliament is working.
"This decision shows that operators which do not tow the line will not be tolerated by the authorities or by the
community." says Ms Collins.
"Liquor licence holders must shape up or will be shipped out."
Both the Manurewa and Papakura Local Board Chairs are pleased with this decision, saying it sends a clear message that
licensed operators who pay little to no attention to the law will not be tolerated.
"The Manurewa community has fought hard for many years for alcohol legislation reform, and now we are seeing the
effectiveness of it." says Manurewa Local Board Chair Angela Dalton.
"Selling alcohol to minors and young people being intoxicated in public will not be tolerated in our community."
"We will continue to work with the police and with the district licencing committees to ensure that liquor licence
operators comply with the law." Says Papakura Local Board Chair Bill McEntee.
