Summer Retail Spending Increase in Kaikohe
Kaikohe, February 12th 2014 - The Kaikohe Economic Development Group is pleased to release figures today showing an
increase in retail spending and volume of transactions in Kaikohe over summer. Figures obtained from Market View Limited
on Paymark transactions show that retail spending in Kaikohe in December 2013 was up 12.5% from December 2012 and the
volume of transactions up 10.3%. On the basis of this surface information, the Kaikohe Economic Development Group
intends to dig deeper and do a wider sweep of the area to make sure they have all the retailers and run a more precise
check. The next set of data will include all merchants (not just the ones on Paymark) and will likely include some
merchants that aren’t currently in the Market View system. This added layer of information will show the group where the
growth in the retail market is really happening and what areas aren’t doing so well. As a subcommittee of the Kaikohe
Business Association, the Economic Development Group has a goal to increase the economic inflows into the community and
decrease the economic outflows. The group is working with everyone it can to attract industry, support existing
businesses, increase visitors and work with the community to create new and sustainable jobs in Kaikohe.
