Waikato-based PR firm HMC Communications expands

Hamilton public relations consultancy HMC Communications has expanded with the addition of a junior consultant to its team and the subsequent ability to offer expanded corporate communication services to Waikato businesses.

HMC Communications has been working with businesses throughout the Central North Island for nearly 10 years across a range of sectors including dairy, telecommunications, research, aviation and energy.

Director Heather Claycomb said the expansion of the firm is a clear signal that more and more Waikato organisations are investing in public relations.

“The growth of HMC is directly attributable to our clients. We’ve certainly seen a trend over the past few years of both businesses and not-for-profits shifting more of their marketing spend into public relations as they’ve been able to measure a solid return on their investment. We’re excited about being able to offer additional communications services to even more businesses in the New Year,” said Mrs Claycomb.

New communications coordinator, Bethany Pawson, was appointed to the team in December. She completed her Bachelor of Communication Studies with first class honours at the end of 2012 before beginning her professional communications career in the health sector.

Bethany has experience in marketing communications, media relations, crisis management, internal communication and event organising and brings additional social media know-how to the HMC team.

During her time at university, Bethany was Media Manager for the University of Waikato Management Communication Students Association (MCSA) and was a winner of the 2011 Chesterman Group Public Relations Campaign Award.

Enthusiastic about developing her professional career, Bethany is an active member of the Public Relations Institute of New Zealand (PRINZ) and heavily involved in volunteer communications support for a local Hamilton youth group.

Bethany joins Director Heather Claycomb and Communications Manager Jacqui Humm who together have over 30 years’ experience working in the communications industry.
