NEW ZEALANDER GAVIN FAULL HEADS 120-HOTEL GROUP
- LATEST PROJECT CORONET PEAK, QUEENSTOWN
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 16 OCTOBER 2013
Asia’s rising hospitality management star Swiss-Belhotel International will launch an upscale resort at legendary Kiwi
ski playground Coronet Peak, adding New Zealand to the burgeoning list of 120 Asian and Middle Eastern nations where the
Swiss-Belhotel flag flies.
Swiss-Belresort Coronet Peak Queenstown will offer an exclusive experience targeting international tourists, said
Chairman and President of Swiss-Belhotel International, Mr. Gavin Faull, a New Zealander presiding over one of the
region's fastest-growing hotel management empires.
Mr. Faull said he was proud to bring the Swiss-Belhotel brand “home” to New Zealand and delighted to plant the brand's
flag in the pristine powder of Coronet Peak, one of the Southern Hemisphere's pre-eminent ski destinations in the
awe-inspiring alps above the snow sports and adventure 'capital' of Queenstown.
“We are seeing an emerging market for exclusive and distinguished projects offering a more elevated experience,” said
Mr. Faull. “Swiss-Belresort Coronet Peak Queenstown is the closest resort to the Coronet Peak ski field and this lends
an exclusivity that is perfect for well-heeled international travelers and aspiring skiers and snowbirds.”
As a key part of the takeover, Swiss-Belhotel International will fully rebrand the resort including introducing new
professional standards of operations and service and an extensive upgrade of the property to raise its classification to
that of a high-quality four-star resort. This will include the introduction of kitchenettes in interconnecting rooms,
additional conference and meeting space, a wedding chapel and outdoor hot tubs.
“Queenstown is an immensely popular destination in both the summer and winter months, with June to September seeing
droves of snowboarders and skiers descend upon Coronet Peak's 280 skiable hectares and extensive, state-of-the-art
snowmaking installations,” Mr Faull said. “This guarantees a long season.”
Swiss-Belresort Coronet Peak Queenstown will feature extensive leisure facilities including swimming pool, spa and
sauna, petanque, volleyball, croquet, badminton, ski waxing and drying rooms as well as Queenstown’s only ten pin
bowling alley. The resort’s location provides easy access to the Onsen Hot Pools – a natural geothermal hot tub
connected to the Shotover River which itself offers an extensive range of water sport activities.
Honoring age-old winter sports traditions, the hotel also features a warm and inviting après-ski restaurant and bar,
which offers excellent dining, comfort food and an extensive wine selection and tasting options showcasing the very
finest New Zealand wines.
The launch of Swiss-Belresort Coronet Peak Queenstown brings the Hong Kong-based group's portfolio to more than 120
hotels, resorts and projects ranging from 2-star to 5-star classifications across Asia, the Pacific, China and the
Middle East.
Meanwhile Swiss-Belhotel International is extending its dominant position in the booming Indonesian hospitality market
with a total of ten new property openings scheduled for completion by the end of 2013 and 16 more scheduled for 2014.
Swiss-Belhotel's biggest presence is in Indonesia, where it has been voted the Leading Global Hotel Chain at the
Indonesian Travel and Tourism Awards for the past three years and currently operates 34 hotels – a number which will
swell to 60 by the end of 2014.
"Indonesia continues to enjoy strong economic growth and we are proud to be supporting that," said Mr Faull. "One of our
guiding principles is to work in partnership with local economies for mutual benefit. It is this win-win strategy that
has been at the cornerstone of our sustainable development as a company and will continue to fuel our growth."
