Food so good it should be illegal
The V.I.K. Rogue Trader Food Truck will soon be offering good honest tucker from some of Manawatu’s best locations.
The Village Inn Kitchen’s second birthday celebrations will see the launch of Palmy’s very own food truck in Hokowhitu
next Friday night. The focus is on old-fashioned fun and soul food. Creating healthy hearty options from locally sourced
produce wherever possible, will bring the taste of yesterday year to the region. Literally.
Nigel Lynn, V.I.K. owner and chef says his latest food venture has been in the planning for months. Securing a truck was
the easy part. Fitting it out, menu planning and negotiating trading places with the Palmerston North City Council has
taken a bit more time. “There are plenty of spots in the city yet to be explored and you’d be forgiven for not wanting
to venture too far from the CBD café culture”, says Nigel. “But it will be worth it”.
The Rogue Trader has been licensed for places never used before. Planned, or a spontaneous treat after walking the dog,
the food truck will easily be found. Not only does it look snazzy, a web cam can guide your tummy rumbles. With sticky
trap toffee apples, prohibition pulled pork, and Mamma Marion’s fried chicken as just some of the menu options, there
will be something to satisfy most.
But it’s not just about the food. “We’re often so busy rushing from one thing to the next that we sometimes forget to
just stop and enjoy good food, surroundings and company,” says Nigel. “I want to make it easy for everyone”. Recognising
our greatest assets are not just the parks, rivers, and buildings but one another is the Rogue Trader’s philosophy.
