Bay of Plenty Central Plateau’s finest homes revealed
A new home build in Te Puke and a renovation in Tauranga have been named this year’s top Bay of Plenty Central Plateau
homes, winning Supreme Awards in the Bay of Plenty Central Plateau Region Registered Master Builders 2013 House of the
Year.
Shaw Builders Limited scooped six regional awards for two separate entries, winning the Registered Master Builders
Supreme Award for the House of the Year, the Carters New Homes $1 million - $2 million Category and Gold Award, and the
Craftsmanship Award for a home in Te Puke.
The company was also awarded the Category and Gold Award for the Future-Proof Building Renovation Award over $500,000
for a renovation in Tauranga.
Todd Grey Builders Ltd won the Registered Master Builders Supreme Award for the Renovation of the Year, and the ITM
Renovation Award $250,000 - $500,000 Gold Award and Category for a home in Tauranga.
Shaw Builders Limited’s new home build impressed judges who said the use of metal cladding, white plaster and cedar
boarding on the exterior of the home is both aesthetically pleasing and incredibly well executed.
“Metal cladding fixings are seamless, which is very difficult to achieve and a real credit to the builder,” they said.
“Clean, crisp lines continue throughout the interior of the home with immaculate finishing and perfect attention to
detail. Clear and concise workmanship was crucial to the client’s brief of a minimalist home, which the builder has
achieved to an unbelievably high standard.”
Judges said Todd Grey Builders Ltd’s Supreme Award-winning renovation has been carried out skilfully and is a
beautifully crafted response to the needs of the client.
“This home has been brought into the 21st century through clever use of cedar rusticated weatherboard and Alucabond on
three dimensional features of the home, giving it a contemporary look and feel,” they said.
“The builder has transformed the upper floor into an open plan space and introduced an impressively large exterior steel
portal, which involved a high level of difficulty.”
The builders’ entries were recognised by members of the Bay of Plenty Central Plateau Region Registered Master Builders
and the local building industry at Wairakei Resort on Saturday, 3 August.
There were 14 Gold Award winners from the Bay of Plenty Central Plateau Region which will now be assessed alongside Gold
Award winners from the 10 other regions of the competition to find the National Gold Reserve finalists, which will be
announced in August.
National category winners, and Registered Master Builders Supreme Awards for the Renovation of the Year and the House of
the Year will be announced at a gala dinner in Auckland in November.
