Abley launches specialist subsidiary to meet demand
Abley Transportation Consultants has launched a new subsidiary brand, Interpret Geospatial Solutions, to meet growing
demand in the specialist GIS area.
GIS is primarily a mapping system which provides a means to better understand information and reveal previously missing
or misunderstood explanations. Ultimately it provides a method by which to draw conclusions and make better informed
decisions.
Managing director Steve Abley said the shift of GIS services to a specialist division was prompted by a growing workload
in both the geospatial and transportation areas.
“We’ll be doing the same great work as always, with a greater emphasis on the likes of specialist GIS analysis, spatial
modelling, data creation, cartography, and web server technologies. We work with clients throughout Australasia and will
continue to do so.”
He said that while Interpret was supported by Abley’s additional expertise, it was an independent discipline and would
undertake work in any area where GIS could solve a client’s problem.
“Interpret will be able to draw on the resources of Abley when required. Together, Abley and Interpret have an
increasing technically specialist team of engineers, geographers and IT specialists.”
Abley said the name of the new subsidiary, Interpret, highlighted the work it does.
“Interpret means to give or provide the meaning of or explain something, which is exactly what we do. We take complex
and confusing data and make the real meaning clear. We take data and present it in visual ways, exposing trends and
patterns that might not have been initially visible.
“Raw data doesn’t necessarily hold all the answers – there may be a hidden story that can only be told through visual
means. This includes presenting the facts in a more memorable format, deciphering results and dispelling confusion,
exposing trends and facts hidden within figures and data, and providing the information needed to make critical
decisions.”
Interpet’s clients include the likes of New Zealand Transport Agency, Auckland Council, and Foodstuffs South Island.
