Top Tips And Tricks for Training Your Pup!
Having a dog is amazing; having a well-behaved dog is even more amazing! From obedience training to behavioural
training, our pups sure have a lot to learn. There’s no use terriering your hair out over it, with these simple tips and
tricks you’ll be sure to put a muzzle on bad habits before they become a problem.
1. Make sure you are consistent with your four-legged friend from the very start, for instance if you don’t want
your fully grown dog to sit on the couch don’t allow it to sit on the couch when it is a puppy. Consistency teaches your
dog boundaries, which then becomes habit.
2. Keeping your pup well exercised and entertained is essential for helping them relax and behave. RUFFS Hide & Snack treats take a long time to chew so are excellent for keeping your dog occupied while you’re occupied yourself.
3. When teaching your dog commands, use simple (ideally monosyllabic) words such as “sit” and “heel”, and always
use the same word for the same action. Say them clearly, loudly and repeat them often – if you use the command often
enough, your dog will learn to correctly associate the commands with actions.
4. Tone of voice is incredibly important for dogs – they’re very clever and can easily pick up on changes in your
tone. If you are getting frustrated while training your dog, be sure to have a break as you don’t want your dog to
associate training with negativity. A happy pup is a pup that knows what he’s supposed to be doing, and a pup that knows
what he’s supposed to be doing is a good pup!
5. Respond with a reward as quickly as possible when you see good behaviour. You ideally need to encourage your dog
as they’re doing the good behaviour for them to build the association, so keep easy-to-grab treats on hand and use a
high voice and happy tone when they’re doing whatever it is they’re supposed to be doing. RUFFS Crackers are bite-sized

6. Training your dog just before meals will ensure they’re hungry and responsive to your food incentives! It will
also encourage them to associate training with meal times, and to see it as a fun and exciting thing to do!
7. Be patient – dogs have a fairly short concentration span, so only do 10 minutes of training at a time. They love
learning new things, but can get distracted after a while!
Most importantly, have fun with it! Enjoy this time with your hairy mate, and be sure to reward their good behaviour.
