DesignA Electronics Nominated for Gulfstream Suppliers Award
DesignA Electronics Ltd of Christchurch, New Zealand, has been nominated for a Supplier of the Year award by US based,
Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, owners of the world’s most prestigious and niche market jet aircraft.
“We were nominated for a supplier award in the ‘Small Business’ category,” said Colin Hogg, General Manager of DesignA
Electronics Ltd, “Gulfstream awards suppliers who have delivered exceptional performance in terms of quality, timely
delivery and within budget. Consideration is given to the client/supplier relationship, how a supplier responds to
Gulfstream’s requests as well as technical input from the supplier.”
Gulfstream approached DesignA Electronics in 2007 to investigate the possibility of using the company’s ARM based single
board level computer module range, ‘Snapper’, as a key component in the innovative Gulfstream Cabin Management System
(GCMS).
The snapper module is a key component in the controller that provides digital control of all cabin systems – from
lighting, window shades and temperature to furniture and entertainment equipment. Passengers can create and control the
ideal inflight environment to suit their individual needs. For example, setting preferences for different needs while
working, dining, relaxing or sleeping. The controller is used on a number of Gulfstream’s business jets including the
G650.
“These Snapper-based modules, comprise a range of extremely powerful and reliable ARM embedded single board computer
components, designed to be compact, with fast execution speeds and low power usage,” said Mr Hogg.
Exported globally, the DesignA Snappers are ideal for use in rapid prototyping and low to medium volume production of
high performing, quality products such as, digital data storage units, medical devices, video and camera products, and
advanced data-logging.
