ASIA PULP & PAPER MAKES LANDMARK ANNOUNCEMENT ON FOREST CONSERVATION JOINING COTTONSOFT IN LONG-STANDING COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY
Cottonsoft New Zealand applauds the recent landmark announcement on forest conservation by its affiliate Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) to end the clearance of all natural forest across its entire supply chain, while reminding consumers and retailers of its own well-established record on sustainability.
Cottonsoft CEO ANZ Steve Nicholson says, “We have congratulated our colleagues in Indonesia on what is a significant step forward for the APP business and the preservation of Indonesia’s natural forests which comes two years earlier than first projected.
“In New Zealand, Cottonsoft has been delivering on our commitment to provide sustainable products for some time. For the past several years we have used only sustainable plantation fibre as well as PEFC-certified fibre in each of our retail products.
“Retailers and consumers have recognized our efforts to build and maintain a strong record on environmental responsibility, and we remain the market leader in our category.”
The immediate suspension of natural forest clearance applies to all APP suppliers while independent assessments take place to identify areas of high conservation value that will be protected through a long-term management programme. The measures are part of the ‘Vision 2020’ APP Sustainability Roadmap.
