Telecom taps former Wrightson boss Miles to head up Gen-i
Dec. 21 (BusinessDesk) - Telecom, which spun out its Chorus network unit last year, has appointed former PGG Wrightson boss Tim Miles to take charge at its Gen-i business ICT unit.
Miles, who got a $3 million golden handshake when he unexpectedly left Wrightson in 2010, will take on the role from Feb. 4 next year, succeeding Chris Quin who was bumped up Telecom's pecking order to head its retail business. Miles previously led Vodafone New Zealand for four years at the start of the millennium before a brief stint with the global phone operator in the UK.
"Tim takes over the Gen-i reins at a time when more companies are appreciating the benefits of innovative ICT solutions, especially with the rapid expansion of next generation cloud computing services," chief executive Simon Moutter said in a statement. "Gen-i is well placed to assist more and more New Zealand businesses to an exciting ICT future."
Telecom's shares rose 0.7 percent to $2.335 in trading today, and have gained 11 percent this year.
