Sport Wellington Appoints New Board Members

Sport Wellington recently appointed five new members to its board, to replace three long serving members who have retired after a considerable period of service to the Wellington Region.

The new Board members are Mark Vivian; an executive at investment managers MOVAC , Darren Rewi; ramp manager for Air New Zealand at Wellington Airport, Jamie Hershon; Chief executive of the energy management company ONZO, Karen Aitken; Director of KA Consultancy and Paula Tesoriero; General Manager-High Courts at the Ministry of Justice.

Paula also has a recent history with Sport Wellington, winning Disabled Athlete of the Year 2008, Sportswoman of the year 2009, Sportswoman and Disabled Athlete of the year 2010 at the Dominion Post Wellington Sportsperson of the Year Awards, for her world record breaking ParaCycling feats.

The new look Sport Wellington board is rounded off by incumbents Grant Baker, Darrin Sykes, Grant Richardson, David Clarke and Sue Piper. Sue Piper will now lead the board as the Chairperson and David Clarke was elected Deputy Chair.

Sport Wellington CEO Phil Gibbons says ‘the new appointments bring a wealth of experience, skill and networks to our board, and will be an asset in helping Sport Wellington deliver its vision of everyone, everyday experiencing the force of sport and physical recreation.”

The new members replace Rebecca Tuck who served six years on the board, Murray McCaw who served over 10 years and Ross Graham who retired after 13 years on the board and 10 years as chair. Phil Gibbons says that “Ross Graham has committed significant energy and time to the sport and recreation sector in Wellington. He has done this effectively and efficiently by taking on challenging leadership roles knowing that his collaborative approach to solving problems will achieve the effect sought. Ross, along with Murray and Rebecca, will be sorely missed by the team at Sport Wellington.”
