Jetstar Teams up with State Oceankids Series to Encourage Kiwi Kids to Take the Plunge
Jetstar is getting right behind the State OceanKids Series with a new partnership helping Kiwi kids to have fun in the
ocean safely and celebrating the next generation of top swimmers. To support New Zealand’s future swim stars, Jetstar is
introducing an incredible opportunity for young swimmers and offering a fantastic family travel prize for all
participants.
The fastest age group of swimmers at each event will become members of the inaugural Jetstar Super Swim Squad and win a once-in-a-lifetime experience - a weekend squad camp with New Zealand Olympic swimmers. Children from all
over the country will gather in April 2013 to hone their swim skills under the guidance of Olympic swimmers and coaches.
Families participating in the series will also have the chance to win a fun-filled family holiday to Sydney for two
adults and three children, including return flights, five nights’ accommodation and tickets to a day at Taronga Zoo,
valued at over $6,000.
David Hall, CEO Jetstar Australia and New Zealand, said the State OceanKids Series is a great way to support New Zealand
families and encourage youngsters to have confidence in the water.
“We are delighted to support the future swim stars of New Zealand, and play a part in encouraging kids to develop a
healthy respect for the ocean whilst having fun.
“Jetstar is committed to connecting families by providing year round low fares. This partnership is a great way for us
to show our support of New Zealand families and perhaps even develop some future Kiwi Olympians.”
Over four million passengers have flown with Jetstar New Zealand since launching domestic flights in 2009, with
countless families travelling more often for less thanks to Jetstar’s everyday low fares. Jetstar operates more than 150
domestic flights in New Zealand each week, as well as flying Kiwis across the Tasman to multiple Australian destinations
and via Singapore to 22 ports in Asia.
State NZ Ocean Swim Series Event Director, Scott Rice says; “The Jetstar initiative represents an incredible opportunity
for young swimmers as well as a fantastic family travel prize for all State OceanKids Series participants.”
BACKGROUND INFORMATION – STATE OCEANKIDS SERIES
All kids entering the State OceanKids Series events take part in a tailored kids training session before hitting the
water with surf life savers and elite swimmers on event day. As well as receiving free towels and other goodies they
will also be eligible for event medals and photos with Koru the Kiwi and some of their swimming heroes.
Children’s entry starts from $20 and all entrants are eligible to join the Jetstar Super Swim Squad if they win their
age group.
Scott Rice says; “It is fantastic to see the increasing number of families swimming together in our six nationwide
events which attract elite and recreational swimmers from six years through to 80 years. We always get wonderful
feedback from kids and their families on the State OceanKids Series so we jumped at the chance to team up with Jetstar
to introduce the Jetstar Super Swim Squad.”
The State OceanKids Series kicked off its first event at the State Paihia Classic on November 10th, and has plenty more
events coming up in the State Capital Classic (27 Jan – Wellington), State La Grande (23 Feb – Akaroa), State Sand to
Surf (Mar 16 – Mt Maunganui). The series finale is the State King of the Bays (6 Apr – Auckland).
