Top 100 & Blue-Gold for Clos Henri Sauvignon Blanc 2011
Clos Henri Sauvignon Blanc has just won Top 100 and Blue-Gold in the Sydney International Wine Competition 2013.
The Sydney International Wine Competition is set apart from other wine shows as the 2000 odd wines are judged alongside a classic meal which is typically suited to the variety. A BLUE-GOLD AWARD indicates that the entry, when judged alongside appropriate food, was pointed into approximately the top 10% of the Total Entry. The TOP 100 wines carry the distinction of being placed amongst the approximately highest pointed 5% of wines from the 13 Style Categories of the 2013 Competition. See www.top100wines.com.
According to Mark Dorrell of Luxury Beverage Group Imports, Clos Henri’s Australian Importer, “The Sydney International Wine Competition is by far the most credible and well respected wine show in Australia. Our customers consider a Top 100 and Blue-Gold as the optimal award.” said Mark.
Renowned for age worthy and complex Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, Clos Henri is the wine estate meticulously established and organically run by the famous Sancerre wine growing family of Henri Bourgeois. With 10 generations of winegrowing know-how behind them, the family crafts exceptional, terroir-driven Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with a strong focus on minerality and elegance.
Clos Henri Sauvignon Blanc 2011 is made from grapes grown in their high density planted vineyard on Greywacke river stones. They use dry farming practices, very low yields and strict vigour control, all enabling the vine roots to source deeper into the soil, amplifying the wine’s true mineral expression. Michael Cooper described the wine in the July/August 2012 edition of Winestate Magazine as “Right on form, with good weight and ripe tropical fruit flavours, fresh and strong. It is finely poised with good acid spine and a dry, rich finish.” This wine will reward cellaring for at least 5-6 years but can be found on the shelves today.
Clos Henri Winemaker Damien Yvon was thrilled with the award and said “We never thought Clos Henri Sauvignon Blanc would be a show stopper. We opt for more minerality, a fact which is not typically rewarded by the show circuit, so it makes winning Top 100 and Blue-Gold even more special. It is great recognition of Marlborough’s potential to create this fine and serious style of Sauvignon Blanc.”
Clos Henri Sauvignon Blanc 2011 is distributed in New Zealand by Maison Vauron and retails for $31.00.
