Debut of Semi-Permanent Wellington sold out
Friday 16 November 2012, Paramount Theatre, Wellington
The debut of design conference Semi-Permanent Wellington has sold out, a week ahead of the event this Friday 16 November at the Paramount Theatre.
Semi-Permanent is a world leading multi-disciplinary design conference that was born from a desire to unite the world's design communities with a premium creative experience by creatives, for creatives. In its 10 year history, Semi-Permanent has hosted 33 events in eight cities, covering five countries, with over 200 speakers and 200,000 attendees. The event began in New Zealand in Auckland in 2004 and is held there annually.
New Zealand Director and Founder Simon Velvin who is originally from Wellington says,"It has overwhelmed me how much the entire Wellington creative community (everyone from Clemenger BBDO, to Massey University, to retailer Good as Gold, to the Council) have supported the birth of Semi-Permanent Wellington. There is a very healthy creative heartbeat here and I believe the city wholeheartedly deserves its Creative Capital moniker."
"We’re already planning a major two day show for Wellington in 2013", Velvin says.
A line-up of eight award winning creatives from Europe, America, Australia and New Zealand are descending on the Capital City for Fridays main event at the Paramount Theatre as well as a host of side events, all possessing the same focus on design, inspiration and innovation.
Massey University will be presenting two workshops at the campus as part of Blast 2012, these are; 'Paper Prototyping - Creative Coding' on Wednesday 14 Nov from 10am-5pm led by Joel Lewis, one half of UK based art and technology master duo Hellicar and Lewis and 'Ensamad Art: Can a sticker have a positive effect of society?' on Thursday 15 November from 9am-1pm led by Spanish graphic design sensation Astrid Stavro. As well as a free panel discussion on the value of design in different cultures on Saturday 17 November from 2pm-5pm.
Good As Gold will be hosting the annual CURVY book launch and exhibition (now in its eighth edition) on Thursday 15 November from 6:30pm. CURVY features work from 40 female artists from design capitals including Paris, London and NYC to countries as far afield as Ecuador, Serbia, Latvia, Indonesia, Mexico and Israel and provides a platform where the next generation of female creative talent can shine.
"I believe that Semi-Permanent's premise of coordinating events based on the notion of idea sharing and inspiration creation help to keep the creative wheels spinning. It can become easy to get stuck behind ones desk, on ones own, focused on deadlines. Often clarity and originality is squashed. As an industry we need to keep a powerful relevant dialogue going", says Velvin.
The eight speakers at Semi-Permanent Wellington are:
• Herbert & Mason, Interiors and Architecture, Melbourne
• Hellicar & Lewis, Art, Technology and Design, UK
• Jon Drypnz, Artist, Wellington
• Jessica Walsh, Graphic Design, New York
• Perceptual Engineering, Film/Directing, Auckland
• @Radical.Media, TransMedia Agency, Sydney
• Astrid Stavro, Graphic Design, Spain
• Revolver, Creative Production, Sydney
