Townshend's Brewery are please to announce the long anticipated release of their Brewers Guild of New Zealand Trophy winning beer, HM's Black Strap Porter.
Judged Best In Class in the Cask Conditioned section of the Awards, HM's Black Strap is a stunning example of Martin Townshend's relentless pursuit of perfect real ale. A sessionable 4.5% brown porter, it displays lovely chocolate and coffee notes, and was praised for it's superb balance.
Another entry, Guppy's Hammer took home a Silver Medal, demonstrating Martin's mastery of British Cask Styles.
"The Awards were a nice validation of what I've been doing. To be judged against my peers by my peers and take home a Trophy and a Medal was a great showing", says Martin.
Founded in 2005, Townshend's 650 litre brewery is nestled away in Rosedale and makes the most of Nelson's hops and Moutere Valley's ancient and pure water.
Since inception Townhend's have garnered a reputation for a growing range of seasonal and year round beers, and a traditional English style Cider. They can be found in discerning craft pubs and retailers across the country.
HM's Black Strap is available in bottles only, and in limited quantities so you'll have to be quick to try this stunning release.

The Brewers Guild of New Zealand Awards are an international beer competition featuring leaders in the beer judging arena. In its eleventh year, the Awards continued to be strongly contested with 460 entries in 2012. This year saw increased support from local breweries, with 20% more New Zealand entries than in 2011 making trophies and medals even more sought after.
