New .kiwi.nz domain name extension hits threshold in less than one hour
New Plymouth, Taranaki - September, 11 2012 - It's official, Kiwis have a new domain name extension in the .nz space, providing greater choice and new opportunities for New Zealand businesses, online marketers and web users.
The NZ domain name landscape as we know it faces a significant change as a new .nz extension is introduced, .kiwi.nz. The new domain name extension will be open for registration on a first come first served basis. The launch of .kiwi.nz domain names had been planned to go through a 'provisional registration' phase starting today Tuesday 11th September 2012. From 10 a.m. today users could submit their provisional registrations to accredited registrars such as Freeparking. The full launch of the new domain name was dependant on .kiwi.nz reaching 500 provisional registrations within the first month but the uptake from New Zealand and international web users has exceeded all expectations and the threshold was reached within an hour of launch. Unlike other domain name ‘zones’ launched throughout the years, this time no domains have been withheld from sale allowing New Zealand and international registrants to pick the name they really want. Maria Brosnan Business Manager at Freeparking commented: “This a very exciting addition to the .nz range of domain extensions, and a valid alternative to .co.nz domains which are getting increasingly saturated. At Freeparking we have been working hard to make the registration of .kiwi.nz domain names available to all customers from day one, and we are pleased with the success obtained in such a short period of time”.
As with all new domain name launches corporate and business customers are advised to act quickly and secure significant domain names for their business.
