CSR Building Products and Brickworks Building Products seek clearance to merge their brick businesses
The Commerce Commission has received an application from CSR Building Products (NZ) Limited and Brickworks Building Products (NZ) Limited seeking clearance to merge their brick businesses in New Zealand. CSR’s brick manufacturing plant in New Lynn would not be included in the merger.
In New Zealand CSR manufactures, imports and supplies clay bricks under the Monier brand. Similarly, Brickworks imports and supplies clay bricks in New Zealand. Brickworks sells its bricks under the Australbricks brand.
The majority of clay bricks sold in New Zealand are used as exterior cladding on houses and small non-residential buildings.
In considering the application, the Commission’s role is to determine whether the acquisition would harm competition in the market to the extent that there would be a substantial lessening of competition.
A public version of the application is available on the Commission’s website at www.comcom.govt.nz/clearances-register
