Calling all Kiwis to vote for AMP People’s Choice Award
Kiwis across the country are now invited to vote for one lucky applicant to Do Their Thing in this year’s People’s
Choice Awards as part of AMP Scholarships. The voting process also signifies the end of the applications for the annual
AMP Scholarships for 2012.
The 15th annual AMP Scholarships saw 2490 applications successfully submitted, 1561 of these are now in the running for
the chance to receive the coveted $10,000 People’s Choice Award, as nominated by public vote.
Blair Vernon, AMP General Manager – Marketing and Customer Sales, is highly impressed with both the ingenuity and
calibre of this year’s applicants.
“I am blown away by the exceptional response this year. It is truly amazing and inspiring to see the incredible things
that Kiwis are trying to achieve right here in New Zealand. We have applications ranging from those involved in positive
social change projects through to very culturally-driven concepts and everything in between.”
“The benchmark has been set very high for this year’s voters and it’s not going to be an easy choice, so we hope the
community can do their part and support these talented applicants by voting for whom they think is the most deserving of
this year’s People’s Choice Award,” he concludes.
Voting for People’s Choice is open from September 1 to September 30 2012, meaning Kiwis have a crucial part to play in
determining which applicant is awarded the People’s Choice Award.
As a first within the financial services sector, a custom built Facebook application has been designed to facilitate
public voting, making it easier for the public to engage with the applicants stories. AMP Scholarships are putting their
technology smarts first - this Facebook voting application has never been used for a Scholarship of this type before in
New Zealand.
The 2490 still in the running for other AMP Scholarships are now going through an extensive judging process with
national finalists set to be announced at the AMP Scholarships – National Awards Dinner, hosted at the Auckland Museum
on 22 November, 2012.
To date, AMP Scholarships has awarded more than $1.5 million worth of scholarships to Kiwis who have been doing great
things. AMP is gearing up to help even more Kiwis this year, and with People’s Choice, Kiwis can do their part too.
