Transpower wins three awards in safety and engineering excellence

Transpower today accepted three awards as part of the EEA Engineering Excellence Awards. The awards include the: EEA Workplace Safety Award (won jointly with Northpower, Top Energy, Electrix and the EPMU); EEA Workplace Safety Award – Merit and the EEA Engineering Excellence Award (won jointly with Top Energy).

Transpower Chief Executive Patrick Strange said that Transpower was honoured to receive recognition from a leading industry body for its efforts in both engineering excellence and safety.

“The EEA Workplace Safety Award and the Merit Award recognises our concerted efforts over the last few years to greatly improve our safety performance and culture both within our organisation and with our service providers.”

“Safety is vitally important in the industry we work in and we have really started to change the way our entire workforce views it. This has been achieved by implementing a major cultural safety change programme aimed at improving safety awareness, training, work-practice reviews, process improvements, leadership, and culture,” he said.

The EEA Engineering Excellence Award, won jointly with Top Energy, recognises the success of a major asset transfer benefiting all electricity consumers in the Far North.

“This was a major initiative undertaken by our two organisations. The transfer of our 110 kV and 33 kV transmission assets in the Far North, which solely serve Top Energy, provides a number of benefits to the local Far North community,” he said.

“It was great to be able to work closely and effectively with one of our customers to ensure we are providing the best possible service and electrical solution to Far North consumers,” he said.

The awards were presented to Transpower by the Minister of Energy, Hon Phil Heatley, at the EEA conference today.
