Symantec’s Control Compliance Suite achieves Common Criteria EAL +3 Security Certification
5 January 2012 – Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) has announced that its enterprise-class IT risk and compliance solution, Control Compliance Suite, has earned the Common Criteria certification EAL + 3. Provision of this worldwide standard verifies that the software has completed a rigorous independent testing process of specification, implementation and evaluation, and conforms to standards sanctioned by the International Standards Organization.
Common Criteria Certification testing is managed by an independent evaluation firm, is recognised by public sector security authorities and organisations with high-level security requirements for its expertise and adherence to published international security regulations. Common Criteria is an important worldwide evaluation for security products and is recognised in 20 countries around the world including the UK, USA, Canada, Germany and Australia.
Symantec’s Control Compliance Suite is a holistic, fully-automated solution to manage all aspects of IT risk and compliance, designed to provide visibility into an organisation’s security and compliance posture while lowering cost and complexity.
In many high security and government organisations in the public sector, software applications must meet strict criteria known as Common Criteria/EAL. Such is the robustness of Symantec’s Control Compliance Suite, it has passed this stringent inspection and been awarded one of the highest grades possible, providing customers with the confidence that the software has gone through the most thorough testing procedures.
Jane Doorly, Vice President European Research, IDC comments on the importance of compliance today: “In recent years, there has been a higher level of adoption and spending in technologies and services that enable companies to meet their compliance objectives. As a result of this trend, we have seen the importance and relevance of independent testing and Common Criteria certification increase, making it a vital element of an organisation’s purchasing process.”
Guido Sanchidrian, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Symantec, commented: “Being awarded a Common Criteria EAL +3 is testament to the continuous hard work and commitment Symantec puts into the development of its products and meeting its customers’ security needs. The award of this certification has resulted in positive feedback from Symantec’s customers, particularly from the public sector, which naturally demands the very highest of security standards. It is crucial that customers have a high level of confidence and trust in their security solutions and an independent review of this calibre is an important step toward building that confidence.”
