Toyota named the world’s greenest brand
Toyota has been named the world’s greenest brand in the 2011 Best Global Green Brands report published by the world’s largest branding consultancy Interbrand.
The report compares the public perception of the environmental sustainability of global brands with their actual performance. Toyota had the highest combined score ahead of 3M and Siemens who filled the other top spots.
The report states: “Toyota’s high perception score is in large part due to the iconic status of the Prius, which has become synonymous with hybrids”, and adds that “Toyota is a leading example of making the environment a core management priority, while also engaging in a meaningful way with audiences around the world”
Toyota New Zealand CEO Alistair Davis says, “It is great to see that Toyota’s global efforts to integrate environmental sustainability across its operations are being recognized. Toyota has led the way towards more sustainable mobility with hybrid vehicles, but the report highlights our environmental focus extends well beyond product alone and is integrated into all aspects of our business.”
In New Zealand Toyota is the only carboNZero Cert TM and CEMARS® certified car company, and has extensive environmental initiatives across its head office and dealer network.
“As well as reducing and offsetting our head office emissions, Toyota and our dealer network have recently adopted the Enviro-Mark® programme, an independent certification scheme to assess environmental performance. In addition our Signature Class used vehicle operation at Thames is fully ISO14001 certified,” says Mr. Davis.
Toyota New Zealand’s activities are described more fully in its biennial Sustainability report which is available on the company’s website. The company will publish its fourth Sustainability Report later this month.
