Coca-Cola Amatil Christchurch Announcement: Good News

Coca-Cola Amatil Christchurch Announcement: Good News for Canterbury

Today’s announcement by Coca-Cola Amatil (NZ) Ltd of a $15 million investment in a state of the art beverage production facility in Christchurch is good news for the Canterbury region, and New Zealand’s food and beverage manufacturing sector as a whole, says Katherine Rich, Chief Executive of the New Zealand Food and Grocery Council (FGC).

“It’s great to see such another major grocery manufacturer and employer demonstrating that it sees Christchurch remaining the commercial hub of the South Island, and backing that judgment with a major investment.

“It’s a mark of the company’s long term commitment to production in Christchurch and loyalty to the region.

“FGC understands that this facility on completion will be comparable to any top class beverage production facility in the world.

“Today’s announcement is also an opportunity to pay tribute to the wider role Coca-Cola Amatil (CCANZ) has played in Christchurch after both major quakes.

“With its own warehouse under rubble, quick action meant a convoy of CCANZ’s trucks were heading South from Auckland with critical water supplies within a matter of hours

“We commend George Adams, Managing Director (also FGC Chairman), and his team for ensuring ample supplies of bottled water were freely available to citizens and emergency workers.

“Through the commitment and quick action of many FGC member companies such as CCANZ, millions of dollars of grocery supplies and cash donations have flooded into the region for distribution by relief agencies and Civil Defence.

“Announcements like today’s are a reminder that such commitments by New Zealand’s food and beverage manufacturers are long term. We commend Coca-Cola Amatil (NZ) Ltd for such a significant confirmation of its long term commitment to the region” said Mrs Rich.
