When it comes to booking hotels, girls are on the money
Hotels.com research reveals that women make better hotel choices
Auckland, 9 December 2010 – New research* from Hotels.com (http://www.hotels.com), the hotel experts, has found that women are better researchers than men when it comes to booking accommodation, and they are less likely to make unsuitable hotel choices. According to Hotels.com, one in fifteen women reported spending over five hours researching a hotel before going ahead and booking, as opposed to only one in twenty-five men spending the same amount of time researching options.
The survey*, conducted among 500 New Zealanders, found that overall, a third (33 per cent) of Kiwis dedicate between 30 minutes to an hour before deciding on their hotel when booking accommodation online.
Unsurprisingly (maybe!), it was revealed that almost one in ten men spend less than 15 minutes researching and booking a hotel. With such a slapdash attitude towards researching and booking hotels, it comes as no surprise then that 16 per cent of Kiwi males say they have decided not to stay at a hotel they had booked after arriving at it on more than two occasions – proving that spending time researching one’s choice of hotel accommodation really does pay off.
The Hotels.com survey found also that cost and location were the top priorities for New Zealanders when booking a hotel. The top five priorities for Kiwis when choosing a hotel are:
Cost 88%
Location 79%
Look and feel 53%
Facilities 46%
Discount pricing 45%
The Hotels.com survey also showed that New Zealand travellers consider family and friends to be the most trustworthy source for travel recommendations, with over half of New Zealanders using family and friends as their first port of call for accommodation tips. A quarter of New Zealanders said they regarded traveller review sites as trustworthy sources.
