InternetNZ announces Best Practice Awards
InternetNZ (Internet New Zealand Inc) and .au Domain Administration are proud to announce the winners of the inaugural Australia and New Zealand Internet Best Practice Awards.
The Awards recognise organisations, businesses, groups and individuals that have made significant contributions towards the security, openness, diversity and accessibility of the Internet. They were launched at the 35th meeting of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) in Sydney in 2009.
The categories and winners are:
Best Security Initiative - that is at the forefront of developing solutions to security threats and building trust and confidence in the online environment. WINNER: *Hector’s World Limited*.
Best Openness Initiative - that enables Internet users to benefit from increased access to online materials, knowledge or information. WINNER: *Australasian Legal Information Institute*. Highly commended: NSW Rape Crisis Centre
Best Diversity Initiative - that encourages expressions of cultural diversity and identity, including the promotion of multilingualism and indigenous cultures online. WINNER: *Vicnet – State Library of Victoria*. Highly commended: Australian Communications Exchange
Best Access Initiative - that aims to combat the digital divide, facilitating access for groups such as the elderly, disabled or socially disadvantaged. WINNER: *The Deaf Society of New South Wales*. Highly commended: Deaf Aotearoa
