Experienced tourism marketer to lead Destination Queenstown
A tourism professional with 15 years tourism marketing experience has been appointed to the top role at Destination
Queenstown, Queenstown’s regional tourism organisation.
Tony Everitt is currently the Chief Executive of Fiji based south-pacific.travel, a non-profit organisation that markets
and develops tourism in the South Pacific, and will move to Queenstown to take up the role from February 1, 2010.
Mr Everitt is no stranger to promoting New Zealand; between 1993 and 2006 he held three 3 executive roles with Tourism
New Zealand, Regional Manager Japan (Tokyo), Manager Marketing Operations (Wellington), and Regional Manager Asia
(Singapore). He has worked in his current role since October 2006 and is looking forward to the changes and
opportunities his new position will present.
“Queenstown is among the world’s premier visitor destinations and I am delighted to have this opportunity to work within
an organisation that already does a fantastic job,” he said.
“I am looking forward to meeting DQ stakeholders, staff, members, industry and local government to understand their
expectations and figure out how we work together to get the best out of the funds we have.”
Born in Fiji and a New Zealand citizen, Mr Everitt holds several academic qualifications including a Bachelor of
Forestry Science, 1st class Hons from Canterbury University and a Bachelor of Commerce from Auckland University.
Mr Everitt described his management style as consultative and at the creative end of the scale.
“I enjoy meeting people and shooting the breeze. My style is open with lots of communication and I encourage the
generation and consideration of ideas within a structured business process.”
DQ chairman Mark Quickfall said the DQ board is pleased to welcome Mr Everitt and believes his ‘can do’ attitude will
fit well with DQ members.
“I think our stakeholders will find Tony an engaging personality who has the capacity to invigorate the organisation and
communicate well.”
Mr Everitt will be joined in Queenstown by his wife and their 15 year old son who is enrolled at Wakatipu High School.
