vicbooks at Victoria University of Wellington, a leading supplier of academic and general books in the Wellington region noted the intentions of the Red Group to enter the ebook market in 2010. vicbooks currently retails one ereader and a variety of digital books online through their publishing partners.
“This confirms our view that ebooks will play a role in the book retail market in the future’’ said Juliet Blyth, General Manager of vicbooks.
vicbooks was the first NZ book retailer to offer ebook readers and digital ebooks for sale in 2009.
“It will be important for most book retailers in New Zealand to pay close attention to the development of the digital book market. vicbooks will continue to ensure that it is a leader in meeting the academic and general book needs through a variety of channels” said Ms Blyth.
vicbooks looks forward to an exciting year in 2010 and beyond and is keen to work with publishers and other independent booksellers to ensure excellent service across our full product range.
The company has developed both ecommerce and retail strategies to manage future demand. A new store format is being trialled in 2010 which will enable customers to experience electronic publishing and interact with vicbooks website.
