Santa’s bandaged face too scary for Christmas
The bandage that’s tightly wrapped around Queen Street’s giant Santa Claus is upsetting children and too scary for Christmas, says the chief executive of the Newmarket Business Association Cameron Brewer.
“This bandage is literally suffocating and blinding poor old Santa. I hear some children have been left quite bewildered. It’s a shame that this much loved symbol of Christmas has to endure such torture all for some cheap publicity for Heart Of The City.
“There is the real worry that Sunday's unwrapping will reveal Alex Swney’s face, rather than Santa’s makeover. Maybe this is more about Swney announcing his candidacy for a big job in the Super City. I wouldn’t put it passed him.
“We try to keep Christmas a lot more dignified in Newmarket. We have the real Santa walking the streets next month, and unlike Heart Of The City we’re not interested in torturing him.
“Sunday can’t come soon enough for Queen Street’s long-suffering Santa. He's then only got a few weeks to prepare for the big day itself,” says Cameron Brewer.
