Relevant Education In A Changing World
The Business Education Partnership being launched today will help prepare New Zealand’s young talent for the business environment of the future.
The joint initiative between the Asia New Zealand Foundation and the business community, recognises that the world is changing.
“In New Zealand we have been brought up and educated in a largely UK-orientated system but the world in which we do business is changing.” Says Peter Townsend, Chief Executive of the Canterbury Employers’ Chamber of Commerce.
“It is becoming increasingly important that business people understand Asian cultures and languages, given our positioning in the world. The call to bring a greater emphasis on this learning into schools and tertiary institutions is crucial as we continue to see dramatic increases in trade with Asian countries.
“With Asian countries making up 3 out of the top 5 export destinations for New Zealand goods and services, the potential upside of an increased understanding and knowledge by our population is huge. Not to mention the travel and social benefits.
“The Canterbury Employers’ Chamber of Commerce wholeheartedly supports this initiative.”
The launch of the Business Education Partnership will take place in Wellington today (Monday November 16) at Belly Gully, HP Tower, 171 Featherston St at 5.30pm. Peter Townsend, Chief Executive of the Canterbury Employers’ Chamber of Commerce will be speaking at the launch.
