Wooing Tree wins gold at the Hong Kong International Wine Challenge 2009
“This is the first time we have entered a competition in this part of the world and it is fantastic news for us, said co-owner Stephen Farquharson. This is also great timing as we had just signed up with a Hong Kong based importer - At Style International. Earlier this year Wooing Tree Pinot Noir 2007 also became the first New Zealand Pinot Noir on all the Cathay Pacific European 1st Class Flights. Not only is this a good sale and very prestigious, but Wooing Tree is getting exposure to a much wider market. We are already seeing benefits with enquiries from people who have had the wine on the flights”
Farquharson added “We see Hong Kong as an important market to be breaking into, it is fast becoming the hub for wine distribution into Asia, with many British merchants and auction houses setting up offices on the back of the recent cut in wine duty”
The Hong Kong International Wine Challenge 2009 is co-organised by the Hong Kong Sommelier Association where the first edition received an overwhelming response. It is Hong Kong’s first ever wine challenge which blends interesting elements of Chinese provincial cuisine as a way to promote wine matching with food. The winning entries, selected by judges during the pre-show judging period, were displayed in the show hall of fame during the 13th Asia Food and Drink Exhibition, (HOFEX). Wooing Tree Pinot Noir 2007 won gold in the Cantonese wine and food match.
Wooing Tree is situated in the heart of Central Otago next to the town of Cromwell and opposite the big fruit sculpture. The family owned single vineyard site specialises in Pinot Noir and also produces a Rosé and a still Blanc de Noir called “Blondie” from the same grapes. Award-winning local winemaker Carol Bunn from Vinpro makes the wine. The new label has had a remarkable first few years, 3 trophies, numerous gold medals, 5 star ratings, and praise from wine writers worldwide. The Wooing Tree Pinot Noir 2007 recently won gold at the Royal Easter Show 2009.
Wooing Tree wines are available at fine wine stores and restaurants through out New Zealand and many overseas countries. See www.wooingtree.co.nz
