Circulation up for Fairfax business titles
Titles in the recently established Fairfax Business Group stable are gaining strength, with latest circulation figures showing impressive increases over the past 12 months.
Business news weekly The Independent and monthly magazines Unlimited and CIO have increased their circulation, as shown in the latest NZ Audit Bureau of Circulation figures.
The Independent’s circulation was up by 10.3% in the six months to December 2008, while figures showed a 1.35% increase in circulation for Unlimited in the 12 months to December and a 12% increase in the same period for CIO magazine.
Unlimited’ also showed a 1% increase in net paid sales over the 12 months.
Fairfax Business Group general manager Julie Gill said the results proved that the magazines were delivering the content readers needed to make intelligent business decisions in bad times as well as good.
“Timely, accurate and intelligent information is important to decision-makers no matter what the state of economy, but at times like this, it is vital to ensure businesses not only survive, but thrive,” she said. “Readers know that Fairfax Business Group magazines and titles can be trusted to provide them with the information they need.”
The Independent, in particular, was also showing the benefits that flowed from being part of the Fairfax stable, she said.
“The extra resources now available to The Independent in terms of marketing, systems and personnel are helping it to go from strength to strength on the back of its strong editorial content,” said Gill.
Fairfax bought The Independent 18 months ago, and also purchased Unlimited in November last year. Gill said she expected to see similar benefits flow to that magazine over the next 12 months.
Unlimited’s increase in circulation is due to a continued focus on strong magazine journalism, says managing editor Fiona Rotherham. “Unlimited has always told the stories of innovative Kiwi companies and entrepreneurs ready to take on the world and that focus has helped build a loyal, growing community of readers over the years.”
CIO editor Davina Paredes says increased productivity is necessary to survive and prosper in the current economic climate. CIO will continue to provide the business technology leadership to help the magazine’s readers achieve that goal.
Fairfax Business Group was established in November, bringing Unlimited together with The Independent and Fairfax’s other technology tiles titles – Computerworld, Reseller News, PC World and Activ8.
