Pak'n' Save Wairau - Road Works To Start
Foodstuffs (Auckland) Limited says it will be starting the road improvement works required under its resource consent
for the Wairau Road PAK'nSAVE immediately after Christmas.
"The works we are required to do on Wairau Road in particular are significant. We want to make as much use of the fine
weather and off-peak traffic period as we can, so we minimise disruption on the roads while we carry out these works,"
says Angela Bull, Foodstuffs (Auckland) General Manager - Property Strategy.
"It is important to us that we minimise the disruption to the people of the North Shore while we carry out these works
and it makes sense to get underway while the roads are quieter. We want to minimise disruption and maximise our ability
to open the store as soon as we can once the High Court makes its decision on the appeal that has been lodged by
Progressive Enterprises Limited. The road works themselves are not in dispute and the High Court appeal does not prevent
us from carrying out these road works."
Ms Bull says the High Court has advised that the appeal will be heard on 4-5 February 2009.
"We are very pleased that this appeal can be heard so quickly by the High Court and we hope any delay caused by the
appeal from our Australian-owned competitor can be minimised. We will not open the store unless and until we have a
favourable High Court decision. We are however just as determined to bring PAK'nSAVE Wairau and an additional 300 jobs
to the North Shore community as soon as possible."
