Builders Welcome Action on Timber Issue
Certified Builders Association of New Zealand (CBANZ) welcomes the investigation into the alleged use of under strength timber by a small number of Auckland frame and truss manufacturers says Chief Executive Derek Baxter.
``Builders have an obligation to provide products that are fit for purpose to the people they build homes for. Obviously we look to our supply chain to provide that,’’ he says.
``There are plenty of regulations and processes in place to try and prevent this type of issue including penalties for those who transgress,’’ he says.
``None of our members have yet reported to me that they have been directly affected by this, but a number are assisting building officials as they inspect properties currently under construction,’’ he says
Our members are pleased with the rapid action by the Minister for Building and Construction - Maurice Williamson and by our suppliers to provide advice and assistance to builders, customers and councils should they have concerns over the issue.
