Kaitoke Kids Celbrate Shelter At Santa Parade
During the weekend children from Kaitoke School in Wanganui celebrated the news that their school will be one of the
first in New Zealand to get a new bus shelter.
Eight children from the school rode around the streets of Wanganui on the Totalspan Undercover Kids float at the 2008
Santa Parade.
The Undercover Kids float featured a replica of one of the bus shelters that will be installed at the school.
Mike Paul, Wanganui Totalspan franchise owner, says it is great to see one of the bus shelters get seen in the
community.
“We have had so much support from people in Wanganui about the programme so it was great to be able to put one of the
shelters on show, so parents and community members can see the bus shelter firsthand,” he says.
“Totalspan has a significant presence in the Wanganui area, so it is good to be able to put something back into the
community that supports us,” he added.
Kaitoke School, with of roll of 104, will be one of four rural Wanganui schools to receive a new bus shelter as part of
Totalspan’s Bus Shelter Programme.
The new bus shelters are expected to be installed over the coming weeks once Transit New Zealand has approved the
locations for the shelters.
In all, Totalspan will be installing bus shelters at 120 rural schools across New Zealand in 2008. The company is aiming
to provide another 150 next year and to keep increasing the number supplied in the years following.
The four Wanganui based schools that will receive new bus shelters are Kaitoke School, Kai-iwi School, St Joseph’s
School Hawera and Ohakune Primary School.
