First homes start at Millbrook West
A multi-million dollar construction project is underway at Millbrook West, a $500 million residential and golf course
development at the five-star Queenstown resort.
Diggers and a construction team moved on-site last week at Coronet Square, a development of 13 elegant and spacious
three and four-bedroom properties in the heart of the exclusive new development.
A construction team led by multi-award-winning Arrowtown-based company AJ Saville Builder Limited has started work on
the foundations of the first of four homes that will be built over a 12-month period, following extensive earthworks to
form the building platforms. The first house is expected to be completed by winter 2009.
The homes will be encircled by the fairways and greens of Millbrook’s brand new Coronet Nine golf course.
Building company owner Allister Saville is one of Millbrook’s regular builders who has built 13 homes at the resort in
the past eight years. In 2006 his company won the overall award in the National Registered Master Builders House of the
Year awards for a new home over $1million category. He made the finals again in 2007 for a character-filled home at
Millbrook and then was a Gold finalist nationally again this year.
All the prizes were for Millbrook homes, and the awards recognise excellence, quality and innovation in building work.
Over the next 12-month period up to 35 builders and sub-contractors will be employed on site, spending approximately
eight months on each home in a rolling programme.
Coronet Square project manager Rowan Small said it was “fantastic’ to get underway after many months of design planning,
not only of the homes themselves, designed by renowned architect Haden Emslie, but also a fully integrated landscape
plan by Paddy Baxter of Baxter Design Group.
“It’s going to be a great ‘office’ for the next few months because it’s such a stunning site with plenty of sunshine,”
said Mr Small.
“The homes are being built to a level that’s well over and above the required building code for insulation levels,
future-proofing them and keeping them as energy efficient as possible,” he said.
“Even though design guidelines are relatively restrictive at Millbrook, to ensure consistency in standards, the fact
that Allister’s work consistently rates among the best in the country proves that he, and the architect, can work within
those boundaries to create timeless and striking buildings.”
The new homes will have features including double garaging, ski drying cupboards, fitted joinery, solid construction,
energy efficiency and a comprehensive heating and water heating system. Each house will be fitted out with the latest
appliances and high quality fittings, including a full home entertainment system.
The carefully considered landscape design by Paddy Baxter is one of elegant simplicity with dry stacked stone walls,
paving, block planting and an expansive ‘infinity’ lawn running to the edges of the golf course.
