Taste Leads Magazine Readership Growth
Taste remains the fastest growing magazine in New Zealand for readership, reporting a 49% growth in readership compared to the same period last year. Taste now reaches 176,000 readers each issue, which is an increase of 6% on the previous period.
Food titles in general performed well in the latest Nielsen National Readership Survey results, with all titles in the category reporting growth year on year. ACP Magazines Group Publisher, Debra Millar, said current economic conditions were no doubt leading more people to cook at home. “Taste is ideally placed to capitalize on this trend with its recipes for appealing café-style meals.”
In a recent survey of Taste readers 43% of main household shoppers reported that they now do more cooking at home than they used to do six months ago, and 64% now buy less take-away food and eat out less often (64%).
81% of readers surveyed said they are now more aware of price and 75% of them are also looking out for specials more. So it is not surprising that the home-made lunch is having a resurgence: 40% of household shoppers surveyed said they take their lunch to work more often now than they did six months ago. Although 49% of Taste readers have changed their spending behavior recently, the increase in home cooking means 61% now spend more on groceries in general. 83% of Taste readers surveyed agree that “feeding the family economically is more important than ever”.
