Test Results Clear Fonterra Product In Bangladesh
Independent tests have today confirmed earlier results showing Fonterra's Anlene milk powder in Bangladesh is free from
melamine.
Fonterra's Director of Group Manufacturing and Supply Chain, Gary Romano said: "We have been confident all along that
our products in this market are safe and free from melamine. These results today from the Health Sciences Authority in
Singapore on samples from Bangladesh have come back negative.
"We fully expect this to be confirmed by the Bangladesh government tests on our product which are expected to be
released in the next few days," Mr Romano said. The Bangladesh Government is testing all major dairy brands in this
market.
Fonterra has run advertisements in local newspapers telling customers these products have been cleared by NZFSA (New
Zealand Food Safety Authority) and are safe to consume. Both NZFSA and Fonterra have conducted a range of different
tests across our products and all have produced negative results. Further, two independent tests conducted in Bangladesh
by the Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution and Plasma Plus, have found no traces of melamine in Fonterra
product.
Mr Romano said: "There is no basis in fact for any speculation that Fonterra product sold under the Anlene brand is
anything but the highest quality".
"We are absolutely confident that our products are safe to consume and we have advised the Bangladesh authorities and
consumers of this. We must work in accordance with local regulations and so are providing full co-operation with
Bangladesh authorities as they complete their process," he said.
