Guilty throws pink tie party for charity
Queenstowners are invited to “get pinked up” for a very special fundraising event hosted by the Ellis Hospitality Group on Saturday 8 November.
The company, which owns Queenstown’s Guilty, Monty’s and Pig & Whistle bars, is hosting a Pink Tie Party as the grand finale of its Breast Cancer Awareness Month fundraising efforts.
The party, to be held at Guilty Bar from 7pm, will be $30 a ticket and will include a welcome drink, canapés throughout the evening, live music from Groova plus free membership to Guilty’s Loyalty Discount Club ‘Usual Suspects’, valued at $20.  Tickets go on sale at Guilty Bar today (28 October).
Each guest's ticket will be a hot pink tie, which they will be expected to wear on the night in some way, shape or form. Prizes will be awarded for most creative use of the tie.  Funded by sponsor Lakes Consulting Group, the pink ties were handpicked and brought back from the USA by Promotions Manager Hollis Heidelberg.
Queenstown spa Body Sanctum has also come to the party, giving massages from 7-9pm for a $5 donation to the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.  There will also be a chocolate wheel with raffles running throughout the evening for prizes such as an $800 Canadian Club Surf Board, paraflight trips donated by Sunrise Balloons, and much more.
General Manager of Guilty Bar and the Pig & Whistle Wal Hayes says staff across the three bars have gone “all out” to show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness.
“Our goal for the month is to raise $5,000 between the bars.  To date our fundraising efforts have included a donation of $4 for every dessert sold, 50 cents from every Lindauer piccolo and $1 from every large Lindauer bottle.  Customers have also been generous, placing donations in the Pink Appeal jars on our bars.  All our staff have got right behind it – they’re all sporting pink ribbons and have come up with great ways of “pinking” the place up, from pink bar signage to pink till rolls!
“The Pink Tie Party will be the culmination of our efforts so we’ll count up the money and present a cheque to the Breast Cancer Foundation on the night.”
Vijay Naiker (pronounced Vee Jay Nigh-ka), the local representative for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation, will be on hand to receive the cheque.  He’s delighted with the group’s efforts, saying that more and more people are doing their bit to help out.
“Whether you host or attend an event, make a donation or spread the vital key messages, Breast Cancer Awareness Month offers all New Zealanders a chance to play a part in the fight against breast cancer,” he says.
The Ellis Hospitality Group is also running similar Breast Cancer Awareness fundraising events at its Dunedin bars Craft, Lemon Room and 10 Bar (Octagon).
