Landcorp to join PGGRC
The Pastoral Greenhouse Gas Consortium has announced Landcorp as its latest Consortium partner.
PGgRC has invested over $19million in the past six years investing in scientific programmes to reduce pastoral
greenhouse gas emissions. PGgRC Chairman Mark Leslie says he is delighted to welcome Landcorp into the Consortium.
“They are a leading provider of solutions and advice on sustainable development and I believe they will make a strong
contribution to the work we are doing,” he said.
“They already have a very useful mix of pastoral businesses including dairy, sheep, beef, deer and forestry and will be
an excellent partner to work with particularly in the adoption area,”
Landcorp National Manager for Services & Strategy Collier Isaacs says Landcorp clients are increasingly concerned about climate change. He says reducing
production to lower emissions, or planting trees solely to offset emissions is not sustainable
“Developing a cost effective, science based option to reduce emissions is the only long term solution – we believe
investing in the PGGRC is the best way to support this development,” he says.
Formed in 2002 PGgRc is a partnership between the pastoral industries and the Foundation for Research Science and
Technology (FRST). The Consoritum has produced internationally acknowledged research on the production of methane and
nitrous oxide from grazing livestock under the most comprehensive programme of its type in the world.
PGgRC is also funded by: Fonterra Co-Operative Ltd, Meat & Wool New Zealand Ltd, DairyNZ, PGG-Wrightson Ltd, the New Zealand Fertiliser Manufacturers Research Association Inc,
DEEResearch Ltd, and AgResearch Ltd. The Foundation for Research Science and Technology has matched industry funding in
the Consortium
Associate members are: the National Institute for Water and Atmosphere (NIWA) and the Ministry of Agriculture and
Forestry (MAF). Research providers and contributors include: AgResearch,DairyNZ, Via Lactia Biosciences and a number of
New Zealand Universities.
