Home Instead Senior Care Otago Officially Opens Today
The Otago branch of Home Instead Senior Care will be officially opened in Balclutha today (Thursday 23rd October) by MP
Clutha/Southland, Mr
Bill English. The opening will take place at Enterprise Clutha, Development House, 6 John Street at 3pm.
Present will be Home Instead Senior Care Otago owners, Patrick and Gabrielle Mills, representatives from WINZ, the RSA,
Probus, senior citizens and Home Instead Senior Care caregivers who are already working with families in the wider South
Otago area.
Mr Mills says the occasion will be an opportunity to recognise the difficulties an increasing number of families are
having when seeking suitable care for elderly family members.
“My wife and I have experienced this difficulty personally when trying to find quality care for relatives with ailing
health. Those difficulties drove us to purchase the Otago rights for Home Instead Senior Care which provides the elderly
with everything from companionship and meal preparation to transportation, shopping, light housekeeping and 24 hour
care.
“We wanted to help families struggling to find the right care for a senior family member and save them the headaches we
went through. Many families simply do not know that there is any other option to rest homes available to them such as
home care but there is. We’re honoured to be working with local families and helping seniors remain in their home for as
long as possible which can make a real difference to the quality of people’s lives and the difference between being
institutionalised or continuing to live at home, with control over their daily lives and routines.”
The Mills area covers the greater Otago region from Waitaki River in the north to Owaka and Clinton in the South as well
as Dunedin – areas they’re extremely familiar with. Mrs Mills, a registered nurse, moved to rural Otago when she was a
young child and returned to the South after stints further north and overseas. Mr Mills is a fourth generation Otago
resident.
