Media release: Consumer on sale in shops
12 October 2008
Monday marks a new era for Consumer magazine. For the first time the title will be available for sale at supermarkets, bookstores and major retailers of magazines.
It’s an exciting step for the organisation, brought about in the main because the organisation wants to make itself more accessible.
Consumer CEO Suzanne Chetwin said in the months leading up to this significant step, considerable thought was given to the principles that had guided the organisation since its inception in 1959.
"We’re nearly 50 years old, but our principles remain unchanged: to arm people with knowledge that allows them to make informed choices; to level the playing field; to get consumers a fairer deal."
However, the way people want to receive this information has changed and we have to meet that new demand. "We publish a magazine that is all about rating products and services, yet up till now we have not been available in the places where people are making decisions about purchases - in shops."
The monthly title will be available for $7.90 in supermarkets, book stores and any large retailer of magazines.
