D-Smart Rake Didymo Management Tool On Show
At a time when water has become a precious commodity across the country a new innovation in keeping water intake screens
clear of debris is likely to benefit many. D-Smart Rake (NZ) Ltd., will be showcasing their innovative technology at the
NZ Irrigation Conference & Expo 2008 being held in Christchurch at Riccarton Park (Monday 13-15th October 2007).
The focus of this conference is on sustainability and how best to manage precious water resources with delegates coming
from across New Zealand and Australia. Exhibitions of new innovations in water management technology will be showcased
at the conference such as the ‘Smart Rake’ system which has been engineered to assist in controlling didymo, keeping
water pumps working, water flowing - reducing maintenance costs.
The D-Smart Rake (NZ) Ltd system operates with two rotating smart rakes that bring any trash or didymo to the top of the
water intake screen. The guided smart rake then physically throws and shakes the sticky debris to the ground or on to a
conveyor. Drawn from technology developed in Australia this patented technology has been very successful in removing any
type of trash and didymo from screens/racks or grids in rivers, waterways and irrigation and drainage channels. “This
innovative technology will be of interest to farmers throughout Canterbury, as it helps keep maintenance of pumps to a
minimum” said Warwick Hawker a Director of the company.
The screens are custom built to meet individual requirements and engineered to high standards in Central Otago. Company
representatives will be attending the NZ Irrigation Conference & Expo where the technology will be on display. The exhibition at Riccarton Park is open to the public FREE on Tuesday
14th & Wednesday 15th.
The new company also offers ‘Field Days’ for interested groups to see the system in action.
