BNZ Monthly Survey Results: Pessimism Returns
In recent weeks our September confidence survey and most others have shown a surprisingly strong leap in consumer and business sentiment about the economy over the coming year. Now, influenced by the financial problems overseas, we have seen pessimism return. Our latest monthly survey of Weekly Overview readers has revealed a net 20% expect the economy to get worse over the coming year. This is a decline from the unusually strong net 27% expecting improvement last month but is still above average and suggestive of slightly improved but still weak growth in the near future.
