Milestone Reached For Popular 'Breakfast'
TVNZ's popular early morning current affairs programme, Breakfast, continues to go from strength to strength and has
reached a ratings milestone in September. Breakfast has achieved its highest ever average monthly performance,
delivering a 4.5 rating against All People 25-54, representing a year-on-year increase of 29%.
The total 5+ audience for Breakfast has grown by 27,800 in September, compared to the same period in 2007. Year-on-year
comparison of television viewers aged 18-49 for the 6.30-9am zone show a 28% increase, and the 25-54 Auckland Urban
demographic has experienced a staggering 52% increase. In September 2008, Breakfast averaged 147,700 viewers compared
with an average of 19,600 viewers for Sunrise.
Although the average rating of Breakfast was 4.5 in September, there are often occasions during the programme when they
reach ratings of up to 8.2, a rating level that is comparable with many prime time shows.
TVNZ Head of News and Current Affairs, Anthony Flannery says the exciting record high reflects the dedication and
professionalism of the entire Breakfast team.
"Paul Henry, Pippa Wetzell, Peter Williams, Tamati Coffey and Corin Dann are delivering what New Zealanders want to see
on their screens every weekday morning," Flannery said.
"They are supported by a hard working team of producers, reporters and crews behind the scenes, and this latest ratings
win is a wonderful reward for their efforts.
"We're dedicated to providing the latest in news, weather and general information as soon as the country wakes up, and
at the same time have some fun.
"In September, more than a million individual Kiwis tuned into Breakfast, and we want to thank New Zealand for making
Breakfast the country's number one morning programme."
