The ‘2008 New Zealand Hotel Receptionist of the Year’ is…..
The ‘New Zealand Hotel Receptionist of the Year’ competition was held at the Crowne Plaza Christchurch on Friday 26
September. Eve Stacey from the Intercontinental Wellington Hotel won the trophy and the title of ‘2008 New Zealand Hotel
Receptionist of the year’ Eve will now go on to represent New Zealand for the David Campbell Trophy and International
title which will be contested in Cannes, Southern France in February 2009.
The runner-up was Blaine Inch from the Hilton Hotel Auckland; this year’s competition was very hard for the judges as
the extremely high standard of the receptionist’s meant that all finalists were clustered within a small spread of
points. Making Eve’s and Blaine’s achievements well earned.
The competition is dynamically contested with finalists from the three regional competitions undergoing an in-depth
panel interview, followed by a test of poise and skill as they participate in a challenging role-play.
Candidates are judged on their “technical/ product” knowledge in relation to, costs, profits, revenue, yield management,
staffing level, structure, promotional ideas etc.
As well as the skills demonstrated in the role-play such as, Conduct/confidence, Interpretation of Scenario,
Negotiation/Sales skills, Problem solving skills, Guest Relations/follow up.
The 2009 New Zealand regional competitions are scheduled to be held in Northern Branch (Auckland). Capital Branch
(Wellington). Mainland Branch (Christchurch) in August 2009. The National will now rotate around the three main centres,
so in September 2009, it will be held in Wellington. The David Campbell Trophy is to be held in Spain, in 2010.
