Garden City Cinema Steps In To The Digital Age
Christchurch is set to welcome the latest innovation in cinematic technology when Hoyts Riccarton (Cinema 6) reopens this week.
Audiences will get their first taste of the new technology with the release of ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth – 3D’ on Thursday, 25 September 2008.
This fully digital cinema system will be the first of its kind in Christchurch and promises to provide a world-class level of entertainment. The auditorium has been equipped with the latest in digital projection system’s featuring the world’s newest 3D technology known as REALD XL.
Hoyts Riccarton will be one of the first cinemas in the world to have installed the new REALD XL technology which allows 3D movies to be screened on much larger screens than have traditionally been possible before. The new installation also includes the Christie CP2000 Projector and a Kodak digital cinema server.
Movies come to life before your very eyes thanks to the three-dimensional capabilities of this new technology. The system utilises a high gain Silver Screen and can be used with disposable polarised 3D glasses to deliver viewers an immersive stereoscopic experience.
For a more traditional movie experience, the system can also play 2-D Hollywood movies with greater picture perfection than most Cantabrians will have ever experienced!
Unlike 35mm film, which scratches and degrades over time, the Hoyts digital installation in Cinema 6 at Hoyts Riccarton delivers superior image and sound quality that not only exceeds that of 35mm film, but maintains the same high quality for every session it is screened.
Traditionalists can rest assured that all upcoming film releases are compatible with this new technology. The Kodak system in Cinema 6 plays back both 2D and 3D JPEG2000 content – the Hollywood standard for feature film distribution and playback.
Adam Wrightson, New Technology Manager, from Hoyts Australia says they are proud to offer this cinematic experience down under and look forward to people experiencing their favourite blockbusters in the best quality possible
“It’s very exciting to be one of the first exhibitors in the world to offer audiences a big screen digital 3D experience using the new REALD XL technology,” he says.
Get along and catch the latest flick in Cinema 6 of Hoyts Riccarton, located inside Westfield Riccarton, and see the amazing quality of digital cinema for yourself.
